Ricardo_ehq
Hi guys - got a 360R with a regular heated screen but thinking of fitting a carbon aero screen. Wondering whether this is more a garage job or something that can be done by a not so experienced mechanic?Thx Ricardo.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted April 19, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted April 19, 2021 You should be fine doing it yourself, the level of input involved depends upon whether you buy new or used and which make of screen you buy. Once fitted though it's very straightforward to swap between full screen and aero.Biggest job will be fitting the captive nut brackets behind the scuttle ends (you may have them already) but if your car doesn't have knee trim panels you don't actually need the brackets. Maybe enquire whether a local member to you can guide you through what's involved.Stu.
ScottR400D
I would agree, it's a straightforward job if you have the right product. I bought the CC one which came with everything needed, mirrors and the captive nut brackets, though it was very pricey for what it is. I removed the knee panels and didn't replace them. Once they're off the brackets go on easily and then removing the screens from wipers and fitting the aero is fairly simple. You need to cut the heated screen wires and add bullet connectors but there's plenty of cable. A couple of things I came to:Be careful removing the wipers. The spindles are not that good a quality material and wear/damage very easily. They won't last long if you remove/replace regularly. I don't use the centre mirror, I find it obstructs forward view, though I use my aero only on track days. Makes a huge difference to performance on track. Julian H
Re the wiper splines, I put PTFE tape on mine.Same with removable steering wheel which I don’t remove very often. Feels so much better to drive without the play!
ScottR400D
The problem I had with the wiper spindle was that after two or three removals a piece had worn away where the retaining clip sits so it didn't grip. Driving along the wiper just dropped off. I rebuilt the worn spot with araldite which seems harder than the original metal.
