Fitting DRE Shift Lights

Was hoping I could tap into the vast wealthy of knowledge out there. I am fitting some DRE shift lights to my K series EU2 car, all going well till trying to connect as instructed to the coil. The connection is a special plug adapter, so cannot connect additional wire to any of the terminals. Alternatively it says I can connect to the rev counter via the rev counter signal, but there are 4 wires going into the back of the rev counter and not being that technical I have no idea.

Has anyone fitted these shift lights to a caterham and found the solution to this problem or am i missing something really simple.

Thanks for any help, appreciate any suggestions.

Phil

Hiya in the same vein I've got live and earth but tested with engine off and key in accessory position, only one live wire in to caterham rev counter (used that for my live feed) - then with engine turned on the next wire along the wiring block was the only one to become live so I used that was thinking it was the rpm feed....Err not...please help, 2005 K series 1800 vvc.

Essentially the unit comes on and functions correctly but it is not reading any revs, and therefore the lights don't come on other than a start up burst just to tease me that the unit is alive.....

Oh dear funny, moral of the story is when in doubt trust the wiring diagram, the white and black - possibly white and slate grey feed from loom to tacho is the RPM feeder from engine so connects to the DRE green, (as per the seven wiring diagram) simples!!! -

And if you cannot be bothered getting out your fancy ohms/ current reader thingo and try to test wires with simple test light then you may well spend about 3 hours trying to get the DRE to work on the incorrect feed.....Which does come up as live when the ignition is turned on and car fires but in essence heaven knows what it is doing -

I ended up using the DRE "rpm check facility" on the instructions and this made me see how dim I was.....thanks for help forum geniuses.

Slightly different use case, I have a CSR with Stack dash. I've got the 12v supply working OK. The green wire (pulse input) is connected to the black/white wire that comes out of the loom just behind the Stack.

I've checked with the multimeter and it shows around 6-7v AC when the engine is running, so seems correct. The DRE doesn't get RPM, regardless of the revs. I've messed with all the settings, but currently it's set to the range that's up to 9990 rpm, 4 cylinders. It's had a peak rpm of 430 (given it idles faster than this, that seems spurious). If I put it into the mode to work as a digital tacho, it remains resolutely showing '0000'. I've set the green light to come on at 3,500 rpm, so that I'm not revving too high when testing.

As an aside the Stack rpm setting is set for a single cylinder (not 4 cylinder) engine. It reads correctly, If I set the Stack to a 4 cylinder, it reads 1/4 of the correct rpm.

Is the pulse for rpm different with a Stack dash to using a conventional rev counter instrument?

I'm a new boy here, so blundering a bit in the dark, but my experience of what just happened was that Jonathan sent me a pm asking for my email address, so that he could send me the wiring diagram for my Stack loom. The reason he said it here is because that seems to be the only way to alert me to the fact that I have a private message. Don't worry, if I work out how to fix it, I'll post it here.

JK sent me a PM to alert me to this thread, so it does work.

Mark - I have a CSR but have the normal gauges. As far as I know the black/white cable is the right one that gives the tachometer signal to the stack dash so I can’t help you much but will put out a request on CSR.informe.com to see if anyone else has run into this.

Hi Mark it is  a club for the help of the members and Jonathan was hugely helpful to me with the DRE stuff then asked me to post for benefit of others.

He will be doing private PM's  to forward diagrams etc and personal email addresses cant go on the forum or you will end up with lots of really helpful people offering to relieve you of your life savings or worse still marry you and stuff!

Hope this makes more sense now.
