Freelander Expansion Tank - Dimensions

Has anyone the dimensions of the Freelander Expansion tank?, or detail of any expansion tank that screws into the centre of the cruciform?

Are you referring to the flat "pie" shaped tank that sits on an upstanding tube in the centre of the cruciform ?

Thanks for coming back Roger,  this is for the BDR, trying to concoct a closed cooling system using an expansion tank of some sort, and trying very hard not to fit anything on the scuttle.

The Freelander is round and has an integrated single moulded bracket, with a hole that could potentially be used to mount it on the boss in the centre of the cruciform, though I suspect it is too tall to fit under the bonnet, hence the question re dimensions.

The flat one, (which i think is off a Classic Mini) as originally used on VXs needs the two vertical mounting brackets that are part of the chassis,  these are not present on my BD.

If the BD used the pie tank, and if you're trying to keep originality, I think it would be easier to braze a couple of fixing brackets to the chassis rather than trying to re invent the wheel?

Plastic header tank for 16 valve VX

The Rover header tank part number is EAP8713 and the support leg needs removing with a hacksaw.

The expansion bottle is from a Rover 200 series. 214's and 216's are the same.

Hi,

I made the Freelander one fit using a simple little bracket - see pics below.

I've just roughly measure the dia as 175mm and the height is 160mm, but I did cut off a bit of the little flange around the bottom to allow it to sit lower

Mines an S3 - 1996 Classic with a Zetec in it.

The bracket could be nicer - it was a rush and then you never see it for months at a time.

Phil, my chassis doesn't have those vertical brackets, ( they were used as ECR said above with the flat expansion tank as per VXs),  mine just has the threaded screw hole at the centre of the cruciform, time to be creative I think lol.

Yeah, I know - but I couldn't track down one of the flat tanks. I think you could have a flat plate bolted down to the middle of the X part and then a slight bend on the end to match the tanks bracket and mount off of that - it would all be underneath and out of sight.

This bolts to the cruciform and the tank bolts to it.

Or use a anti roll bar mounting block or simply a P clip
