Front and rear dash cams

Cornwall AR

Recommended Posts

I run  with two Go Pro camera's running via power leads to give power when the car is in use

The rear camera is fitted to a roll bar mount (rear facing) and the front is fitted to a mount in the Centre of the aero screen- both work a treat and are fully waterproof

Hello Dennis

Two options

1 On my rear camera (Hero 3 old style) I just remove it from its water proof enclosure, the front one it unclips it from the slide in mount either on the windscreen or aero and take away. They are so small they fit in your pocket. You can even use them as a normal camera if you want.

2 Or leave them fitted - if I leave the car I put on the shower cap they are hidden.

Never had a problem

No problems with cable runs, I run concealed USB cables (easy in a 7) with the correct end connector for the Go Pro.

HOWEVER  a GoPro will not give the same functions as a dash cam in terms of detection shunts when you leave the car etc

I use Next Base Dash Cams with Mag mounts in my other cars and on dry days I have use these in the 7 with a windscreen mount but there is the theft element if left exposed which you would want from the dash cam if you had a parking shunt.

Next Base used to do a waterproof bike camera which for some reason they discontinued.

I suppose it depends what you aim is, for me the Go Pro records my journeys and what other cars around me are doing so at least if there is an incident I do have a record of events- even it is my fault
