Jochen
Does anyone know if you can get a more modern felt seal for the front hubs ? Any new style ones without the cotton like stuff in them? Someone tells me the GHS146 lip seal from the Spitfire will replace the felt thing. Spitfire started life with the felt seal then went to the rubber lip seal. I never tried it. My 1985 live axle have the old style front hubs. Stationary M25 Traveller
I am not sure there is one. A lot of us have upgraded to the newer hubs with larger diameter stub axle and sealed inner and outer bearings. Both bearings are the same size. It's an expensive way to get rid of a felt seal ...... but nice peace of mind. I find the bearings don't need adjusting very often at all. The original tiny cheap outer bearing was always in need of adjustment !
elie boone
What is wrong with the felt seal ? it works perfectly, oil it slightly but don't overdo it or the whole side of your car is coverd in oil
Paul Deslandes
agree with Elie, just a bit of light oil on the felt. Anything heavier, such as the hub grease, causes the felt to stick to the hub and be torn out within a very short distance.

I wouldn't want to use them for track use.

One side more than the other. The benefit was that they wont squeak 😬 This time i want to prevent contaminate the new expensive brake pads with grease... So i think if there are no suitable rubber seals available the best i can do is to replace the very old felt seals with new ones.

7 wonders of the world
I'd be looking to try the lip seal - they can't be that expensive, I'd also be using something like Castrol BNS in the bearings too. Stationary M25 Traveller
If you can identify the bearings (large and small), just order the equivalents from a tame bearing supplier ( ) asking for the outer face of each bearing to be sealed !!!
