7 wonders of the world
During my rebuild I replace all rubber components as a mater of course, this included he fuel hose, some 2 1/2 years back this was with R9 injection hose from a reputable source.Whilst checking something in the same location over the weekend I noticed what I thought was dir on the hose, it wasn't it was cracks, using a mirror I checked the rest and found more cracks. As best this could leave you stranded - at worst it could cost you a lot more ! I would urge you all to spend 30 mins carefully checking your hoses from the tank onwards for signs of cracking, I've since looked into this online and it would appear that dubious R9 hose has been finding its way into reputable supply lines.I've just ordered a roll of Gates Barricade hose from the link below, there's currently a 20% discount on it too.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333310967480Apologies if this has been mentioned before but I could find it in the search
John Vine
Thanks for the alert, Neil. The hose on my 2008 R400D is the ribbed (plastic?) variety. Is that susceptible to similar cracking?JV
Bricol
Bemused that hose says R14 - but then claims a pressure rating 4.5 times the requirment. . .
TomB
During my rebuild over winter, I replaced all my rubber fuel hoses with this R9 hose bought from a reputable seller on eBay as recommended by a couple of Blatchatters .https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/R9-Fuel-INJECTION-Rubber-Petrol-Hose-Pipe-SAEJ30R9-High-Pressure-Line-Reinforced/140850656095?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
7 wonders of the world
John - Not seen any problems with the plastic, merely the rubber sections on either end.Tom - Hate to tell you this but that's the same hose I used....

TomB
Oh bugger. I’ll have to keep an eye on it and add it to the annual service inspection list.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted June 17, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted June 17, 2020 Sadly I'm learning with most rubber components ... if the old ones are still in decent condition don't bin them when you replace! It's not just fuel exposed rubber.Stu.
Alastair B
So I have bought some a short while ago as I suspect my fuel hoses are 21 years old! Will be taking a look over the weekend to assess the condition, not so sure now to replace if all looks OK. I bought this from these folks.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8mm-Rubber-Fuel-Injection-Hose-Petrol-Pipe-SAEJ30R9-7-6mm-5-16-I-D-Diesel-UK/251175712377?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Bricol
Hose on a Scimitar SS1 went from perfectly intact to rotted through and snapped in less than a year. Car was stood in that time with fuel in the tank - couldn't work out why it would not start and realised there was no fuel coming through - closer inspection revealed the petrol smelling dark patch in the gravel drive under it was due to both supply and return hoses from tank to solid pipework were less than continuous. Alastair B
OK, if fuel pipes good, no replacement. If I need fuel hoses then find out where to buy the good stuff in a smaller quantity.
7 wonders of the world
Gates do smaller rolls, but probably worth splitting the 7.6m roll I linked to with other members, works out a reasonable cost then.

garybee
I wouldn't suggest using that for fuel hose. You'll be safe with this one:-https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mocal-Codan-SAE-J30-R9-High-Pressure-Rubber-Fuel-Hose-7-9mm-ID-per-Metre/303349613164?hash=item46a10bc26c:g:9uMAAOSwZf5dzQqT
7 wonders of the world
I find straight silicone hose very 'kinky' whereas rubber is much easier to form a radius without kinks. Garybee - yep perfect, though on price the Gates works out at under £8 per metre with the current discount , but Codan, Gates Goodyear are all ood sources. garybee
Yes, the Gates hose you linked to is a much lower price per metre. I linked to that one in case someone needed a shorter length. Also, I'm not saying that there aren't any counterfeits of Codan hose out there but all the disintegrating hoses I have seen seem to have 'Gates' marked on them. It could of course be genuine but still junk but I suspect it isn't.I wouldn't use the silicone hose because I don't believe it's suitable at all, not just because of its handling properties. 7 wonders of the world
My original hose pre rebuild was all Codan and knackered but it was only R6 so that's probably more the cause there.Agree there are a lots of counterfeits around - I was stung with a duff Walbro fuel pump !The seller I linked to is part of Euro Car Parts

For anyone reading this that's thinking of using that to plumb your fuel system, please don't. It isn't rated for high pressure or constant contact so it's likely to let go and spray your engine bay with petrol.

7 wonders of the world
...and suitable clips too, (I prefer 13-15mm 'O' clips) you may have to cut some of the old crimp joints off to reveal the reuseable barbed banjo's etc onto the fuel pump.
