Grease nipple snapped propshaft UJ

As the title says....Bugger. *mad*

A spot of maintenance today, rear one done fine but the gun was stuck fast to the nipple on the front one. Gave it a yank & it sheared. The good news is I have been able to unthread the remains *yes*

Can you buy just the grease nipple & stem or do I have to buy the whole joint? Caterham do sell the joint at a reasonable price.

Just had another look on the CC site & found this, happy days, may even order as spare for next time.

The joint has plenty of grease in it Duncan but I suppose the risk is that  with centrifugal force grease could leak out? The bolt is an idea, just need to be careful not to bugger the female thread.

Put it this way, a missing grease nipple is not going to stop me taking the 7 on this years Euro trip to the Dolomites. I'm sure something will turn up if I keep searching. No wonder it snapped, it looks very fragile when seen on it's own.

In regards to what caused the breakage, the end of the gun jamming onto the nipple, this was exactly what happened with me.

I replace the fixed nozzle of the gun with a flexible one and then found the the 'nose' of the gun which attaches to the nipple is threaded and can be unscrewed by hand to open the attaching inner jaws and visa versa before you pump the grease in. Obviously unscrew again to remove the jaws from the nipple.

(this does sound a bit like something out 50 Shades of Grey)

Works the same way as a drill chuck

I assume the one CC sent  is this size.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GREASE-NIPPLES-IMP-1-4-UNF-Z-P-LONG-TYPE-QTY-10-/360157195795?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item53db0aae13. There is no description with it.

but I need to find out what size the old obsolete one is. If I do find out I will post here as others may run into the same problem. My car is only coming up to 8 years old.

After more research I have found a supplier of the smaller grease nipple.

I rang CC parts this morning & they were aware there are two different sizes but only keep the larger 1/4 UNF one.

If you are unlucky & need a replacement & it's the smaller one you need one of these. M6 X 1 30mm long.

Cat no 608661 from these guys. http://www.mooreinternational.co.uk/category-70.html
