Greasing rear brake calliper slide rails

I reassembled my rear brake calipers and reattached them to the car.  I put a thin smear of red rubber grease on the sliders given the rubber boots, but I've since wondered if this was the right stuff to use in this application.  What does blarchat think?

There is a dedicated grease for this application (halfords sell small sachets) but I doubt that your rubber grease will do any harm. I've used coppaslip before now.

Ideally, you should use a high temp silicone grease such as this.  But as Roger suggests, rubber grease should work ok.

Ordinary grease may make rubber swell and cause problems with the slide function.

I just use copper slip every year, always have done.

I renewed the bellows this year, loads of sites selling the "FORD SIERRA & SCORPIO REAR CALIPER SLIDER PINS & BELLOWS" kits. I just contacted a couple of dealers and asked if they would supply just the bellows.

Thanks Grumpy, I did look into rebuilding my rear callipers, but I think I’ll do that at another time as I just want to get the car back together now before I completely run out of summer!
