AnkerB-S
I am having trouble getting the front wheel bearing cap off. On all other cars I have owned there was a lip that allowed me to pry it off with a scare driver, but this one doesn't. What's the secret? I need to adjust both sides since I can feel play in the wheel.
garybee
Big, sharp flat-bladed screwdriver against the side of the cap near the hub. Angle it so the tip is pointing a little away from the car and give the other end a whack with a hammer. It'll bite and make the cap tilt a little. Repeat on the other side. revilla
I did the same but using a small cold chisel.

Titanium7
I've seen self tappers put in a hole in the middle to pull on.
aerobod - near CYYC
Slide hammer using the body-puller mode, combined with the self-tapping screw in the centre vent hole (as mentioned by Titanium7)

Drumster
Just as easy... I fitted a M4 rivnut and screw in a long M4 bolt which pushes the cup out. When refitting I just got a short M4 buttonhead. I thought this was common knowledge as an ex sevener showed me this method some 10 years ago.
AnkerB-S
Thanks, that was really helpful. I like the rivnut idea!
JonT
I can usually get a grip on it with a plumbers wrench (something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-PL23-Waterpump-Pliers-Capacity/dp/B000LFVA3K/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=Plumbers+Wrench&qid=1592205721&sr=8-6)
Ivaan
Self tapping screw in the hole in the middle a few turns. Grab hold with a pair of pliers and pull straight out.
Tony P
I think the installed rivnut method described, above, by 'aeroscreens' is the most elegant method - rather than mullering the thing with chisels and mole grips or progressively enlarging the hole! :-)I did a piece on this in Lowflying, way back when, after I hit on the idea... only to find subsequently that - of course - it had been done before; though I'd thought it worth sharing. I found that the most commonly found size of M5 rivnut was too long once fitted - hence M4.Yes, you do end up with a slightly larger hole in what is supposed to be a dust cap, but a dab of grease solves that (and protects the threads ahead of you needing them). Just remember to keep a long M4 setscrew in the toolkit.
Bricol
Suitable self tapper in the end just pushes it off when it touches the end of the stub axle, or used with pliers to pull it off. Remove it and replace the cap when done. Dab of grease seals it until time. No need to add extra un-sprung mass :)
Tony P
I have tried to banish the crudeness of self tapping screws from my life - particularly on the Seven! (But then we all have our own little hang-ups and obsessions...)
