Immobiliser / Key

Hi

I was hoping that someone might recognise the type of immobiliser fitted to my 1998 seven from the pictures of the key. I only have the one key and it would be more comforting to have a spare if this was possible. Sadly I suspect that this type of immobiliser has long since become unavailable, but I wouldn't mind know this for sure.

Thanks for info, at least I now know what it is.  Unsurprisingly I rang the number you gave, but message say's "number dialled is not regognised".  Anybody have any suggestions on how to overcome my dilemma?  I am not apposed to having the alarm disconnected, does anyone know what's involved and the likely cost of calling a mobile car alarm specialist in to do this?

I took mine out,I found the Vecta unit, it was under the scuttle, so removed the scuttle and followed each wire in turn. Most of the wires are in fact dummies and are simply spliced into existing loom wires. These I simply cut out, the only wire that actually did anything was on the +ve side of the coil, so the Vecta was in circuit and effectively switched the coil on and off, so I disconnected the two connections to/from the Vecta, and soldered the coil wires back together. It was easy, just fiddly.

I still have the key though......

Thanks Tazio, you are obviously very competent and very brave. I'm afraid this, for me, just might  be a step too far, (a bit like cutting the wires on an unexplored bomb!)  I think I will give some serious thought as to my next move, but thanks again, I appreciate your help.

Mine had a Vecta. It started playing up, randomly, so replaced with another system. The fitter took the Vecta off for me and fitted an Autowatch system. No key, just a key dongle that needs to be near a wire wrapped around the keyhole.

I think these systems have a shelf life....
