Intermittent indicator

Ballast-ic

Recommended Posts

My indicators are only working intermittently and often just flash once and then stop. Both sides are affected. Sometimes I can flick the switch again and they work, but not often and sometimes they just work fine.  Car is a 2006 kit Roadsport Superlight. I can't find a wiring diagram so if anyone has one that would be useful. Presumably it is a loose connection somewhere, but where? Any suggestions for troubleshooting will be most appreciated.

Working the hazard switch didn't help and relay is seated OK. Replacement of the relay seems a reasonable first step. Are the relays pretty standard, so any 3 pin 12v relay will work. The one fitted appears to be a Peugeot one! Then I'll take apart the hazard switch and clean that up and check earths on the lampholders.

Bear in mind that the "hazard relay" is really an "indicator relay", and is there to ensure that the indicator switch is under ignition-switch control.

Do all indicators work normally when you turn on the hazard switch?  If so, the indicator relay circuit is suspect.  First, ensure that the hazard switch is firmly in the OFF position (press hard), and then try the indicators again. If no good, try swapping in one of the other relays as a test.  Also check that the connectors at the back of the relay have not become dislodged.

I have put in a relay from friend's Caterham and that seems to have fixed it, so dodgy relay is primary suspect so have ordered up a new one. AkersB-S, horn works and connections on alternator are OK, but thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks to all for their advice. Being a newbie to Caterhams and having to get the spanners out, it is very reassuring to have such a body of knowledgeable and helpful folk out there *thumb_up*
