david nelson
Does anyone know the part number for a k series starter motor? Need to replace mine. Thanks David
revilla
Standard is Magneton 9141 380, but it was made just for Caterham, you won't get an identical one off another car. There are alternatives from WOSP, Brise, Powerlite etc.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 24, 2020 Member Share Posted January 24, 2020 Might it be repairable? That could be cheaper, and also means that it will fit the existing brackets and cables.Jonathan

david nelson
Had a brise they say it not repairable. Not willing to pay £300 for a new one. Looking for a sensibly priced replacement.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 25, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted January 25, 2020 David, I bought a Wosp starter a couple of years ago from AES, cost was £216 and it's been brilliant (high powered K-Series). Let me know if you need any more details.Stu.

david nelson
Stu et al,Thank you for your posts. I was just looking for a bog standard starter without having to pay £200+.The seven rarely gets used last year 100 odd miles, and when it does its mainly for sprints and hill climbs. I have had a quick search on BT and it looks like a ford starter. just wanted to see if any new the part number, so i could cross check it.thanks again David
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 25, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted January 25, 2020 Space is very tight because it's a Rover engine mated to a Ford gearbox. Off the shelf starters might foul the block or even the exhaust primaries, the K-Series block already has a chunk ground out of it to give space for the starter motor in the Caterham installation.I'd suffered for a few years with starting issues and believed it was battery issues, eventually I bought the Wosp starter and it was a total transformation, wish I'd done it sooner. Give Chris a call ...Stu.

jonathantennantbtinternet
I went through all this last year and it was a pain in the ....If possible get the old one rebuilt ! ! ! I bought a Brice but couldn't fitted it due to the engine block fowling . In the end I took it to Seven and Classics who machined/cut a section of the engine block so the Brice could be fitted. elie boone
I use the Lucas LRS110 (1.4kw) for the X Flow and this should also fit the K series but i never fitted one on a K series. This starter is smaller than the old Bosch one and not expencive.

Simon.Rogers
David's Brise has sheared the drive gear. It is not repairable. We use a local Auto electric company local to us and have done for many years. It's not the electrical part that's failed.
