A7 OOH
I have a Piper Cross Kit which I use on my K Series- Is this suitable for the K&N pleated cotton units, or do I need to buy K&N specific kit?
timb2117
Hiya, when you say "kit" do you mean the cleaning fluid and oiling substance? If yes then for a few more pounds I'd buy the genuine K& N but go sparingly witht the oil, rumours of heavily oiled ones leaching through onto sensors.... Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted November 18, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted November 18, 2020 Oiling is a thorny issue. I have an external Pipercross for my RBTBs which even if lightly oiled would more than likely cause a problem. I sought 'professional' advice on the subject & was told to just clean but not oil due to what I have already stated. With ablation the outer filter sponge is knackered after about four years so I just replace. £ouch£ !
A7 OOH
Never had a issue with my Pipercross, so with care and following the instructions I do not see a problem with the K&N's
timb2117
Yup my comment was after bitter experience with a popercross on land rover discovery, and advice and research thereafter....However my current carefully looked after K&N seems great, the oiling I literally just spray a single light sweep on outside. aerobod - near CYYC
I would be wary of using the wrong oil on the filter, as the K&N cloth filters rely on the oil to coat the fibres in a specific way to trap dirt particles. The dye in the oil is designed to give an even light red colour when applied to the correct amount, too much and it becomes bright red, too little and it is too grey. I only pay the equivalent of £12 for a cleaner and oil kit that lasts about 8 applications to the Caterham K&N cone filter.
garybee
Oil contamination of inlet sensors is generally not so much of an issue on MAP based engines. MAF sensors are much more susceptible to contamination. I wouldn't worry about filter oil causing an issue with sensor function in a K series. A7 OOH
K&N's are fitted to my X/Flow so no issues with sensors.
garybee
I missed that we were talking about a X-flow filter. Ignore my previous comment then, not relevant.
