Max RPM Duratec RBTB

Hi All,,

I bought a 2013 Supersport R last year with the 420 engine upgrade and Roller Barrel Throttle Bodies. Factory upgrade by CC.

 

I'm wondering if anyone could advise the RPM's for Rev Limit, Max Power and Max Torque?

 

I have just fitted DRE shift lights and looking for some insight to program them.

Easimap shows the rev limits on my R400D with RBs as:

The only max power and torque figures I have are from before the RB upgrade, recorded at the Two Steves:

Max Power 207.9 bhp @ 7842 rpm
Max torque 143.7 lbft @ 6069 rpm

I'd guess that the RBs would raise the max power to 215-220.  I wouldn't want to guess about the torque.

My 2015 R400D had RBTBs fitted by Luke Stevens and was mapped by Steve Greenald in October 2016.

The RR chart shows max power 220bhp at 7130rpm, max torque of 173lb ft at 5995rpm.

I understand the rev limit to be at 7600. 

My first shift light comes on at around 5000, then 5750, 6500, 7000, 7500 (I think, at around there the limiter cuts in). Sometimes I think the gaps are too big though they come on very quickly in 2,3,4 and 5 even. The issue is that at, say, Snetterton, or anywhere with a decent straight, once you're above 90 or so, there's always at least 1 light on, similarly, once you're moving you're rarely at less than 5000 so always a light on. Not a red one but it can be distracting.

Plus side is on the road, where, in the lower gears you can use the first light as a change point and get along quite well, never going over 5000rpm.

Of course none of that may be relevant if you don't have the 6 speed or Aces lights!

AFAIK the R400 ran stock Ford rods and pistons to (with ARP bolts) though the cams / springs were Kent profiles to gain the extra power.

Neither the stock rods or pistons were destined to be hitting the limiter anywhere near 8K  *yikes* 

John you limits are certainly on the high side I wouldn't run stock internals beyond 7700 (hardcut)

That's a whole 30 over my pre-RB figure.  Is it correct, or a typo?

Hmmm..interesting, Neil. The figures recorded were before I had the RB upgrade at CC Crawley.  I assume that the current soft-/hard-cut values were set by CC after the RB upgrade?

Is that something I can change via Easimap?  (I don't make a habit of hitting the limiter, so probably wouldn't notice the drop.) 

AFAIK, R400Ds of my vintage (2008) ran standard rods and pistons, ARP big-end bolts, plus uprated (double?) valve springs for RB versions.

Yes, Aerobod, I've considered all that but, IMO, with the 6 speed ratios being so close and short, and the number of lights, there's no setting any better than what I have. Yes, they flash once all on and to be fair, after a while I find I change up and down almost by position on track and sound etc , and tend not to watch the lights that much. 
 

I'd appreciate any suggestions if anyone knows better?

Before the RBTBs it was 210.5 at 7350 and 159.5 at 5885. 

That's impressive, especially the torque.  IIRC, CC quoted 210 and 150 respectively.

Is your engine standard R400 (apart from the RBs)?  If so, it looks like I'm due a visit to Track 'n' Road!  My map is the one CC supplied along with the RB upgrade.

Well, I know these things all depend on the RR but this was all done on Luke's new road over in Fordham and all carried out by some of the best people in the game, as far as I am concerned.

Yes, a standard engine that came with my kit in 2015. Run in carefully over 600 miles, when it did it's first track day. About 3000 miles on it when the RBTBs were fitted.

Ah, I'd assumed from #3 that your figures came from the Two Steves' mapping session in 2016.  Maybe the difference is (entirely?) down to the different RR?

The Two Steves mapped mine in 2010 at 18K miles.  I had RBs fitted in late 2014 at 35K miles.

That's good!

Another thing I'd add is that since having the RBs fitted, the engine's been faultless, runs very smoothly, from low revs to high, ideals steadily at about 850 within seconds of being fired up, in other words, much better than it ever did as it came from the factory!

its a pussycat with a light foot, not so much with heavy boots!
