Tom_Arundel
Interesting! Makes me wonder what will happen when we all go to nice clean EVs and the refineries have to find somewhere to dispose of petrol and diesel etc. As we are dependent on refinery products for almost everything we use and much of it is `necessary` maybe EVs have a hidden problem
Leadership Team Toughie Posted April 14, 2021 Author Leadership Team Share Posted April 14, 2021 Well that would bring us round to the much bigger topic of EVs, where they create their pollution, how toxic their pollution is, how sustainable it actually is, and how we generate the additional electricity.Meanwhile, a few Japanese car companies appear to be experimenting with hydrogen powered vehicles. But all this is far, far beyond me. For the time being I'll stick to flagging up the oil issue.

Tom_Arundel
Hydrogen....always reminds me of the cover of Led Zeppelin`s album Electric cables and batteries everywhere is bad enough but hydrogen and the general public won`t mix in a good way! Leadership Team Toughie Posted April 14, 2021 Author Leadership Team Share Posted April 14, 2021 I confess, Tom, the prospect does seem surprising, but it looks as if there might be something in it worthy of consideration.France and Germany wrongfoot the UK on hydrogen-fuelled road transport – againCar-making giant Stellantis will soon have a production fuel cell vehicle on sale in the UK, but how does that fit with Government policy?https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/comment/france-germany-wrongfoot-uk-hydrogen-fuelled-road-transport/AndElementary: U.K.’s $36 Million Bet On Hydrogen, Explainedhttps://www.forbes.com/sites/davidrvetter/2020/02/21/elementary-uks-36-million-bet-on-hydrogen-explained/?sh=627a07334915Not that I know enough to judge. GulfSeven
In a complete coincidence, I just bought some top up bottles of oil and coolant for my 310R from Opie Oils. I really must check for L7C discounts in the future as it didn't even occur to me.
Leadership Team Toughie Posted April 16, 2021 Author Leadership Team Share Posted April 16, 2021 Tim! Do you know how much time I spend trying to get Members Benefits discounts, and then you don't bother using them?Actually, part of the problem is that we have so many discounts, you could never remember. If you do go into discounts, it might be worth using the category filter to narrow it down when you're looking for something in particular. Leadership Team Toughie Posted April 16, 2021 Author Leadership Team Share Posted April 16, 2021 I've just had this report on the lubricants situation,https://www.lotus7.club/membership/special-offers-members/oilconfirmed by member and Caterham 21 owner Guy Lachlan, who is M.D. Of Classic Oils (from whom we get an exclusive 15% discount).https://www.lotus7.club/membership/special-offers-members/classic-oils-available-15Guy tells me the situation is already having an impact on prices. ScottR400D
I've just had a mail from Opie offering £5 off orders over £40. The Millers I bought at £54 last September is now £73. Good job I won't need to buy any for quite a while! Edited to add. £63 on Amazon.
GulfSeven
Can the Opie Oils discount be used through their eBay store or just through their website? The fluids I just ordered came from their eBay store which worked out out 20% cheaper than through the website anyway.
ScottR400D
No idea, the voucher was just in a mail. Can you use the club discount on eBay?
GulfSeven
I just tried the code through eBay and it doesn't work. So it's probably worth checking if the eBay store works out cheaper than the website even with the code. It did in my case (and means I don't have to kick myself for forgetting to check the L7C discounts).

Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted April 18, 2021 Area Representative Share Posted April 18, 2021 #10 Toughie - Do I detect some frustration already due to the fact that members are unaware of club discounts - OPIE being one ?Having built up the discount stock over the 13 years in post it never ever surprised me that a vast number of members were unaware that they existed. Many times I laboured the fact that it is worth checking club discounts before that vital purchase but even then it did not have any effect. So Alan your frustration is well founded. Makes you want to chuck the job in doesn't it ? And only after three months.Oh & by the way, who set up the OPIE discount ?! 7 wonders of the world
Geoff,There are some cracking discounts for members but the way they are listed means they are easy to miss, like many other areas on the website it needs attention.I struggled to find DT the other week
ScottR400D
They're easy to find when you know where the list is tucked away but not so much if you don't. I learned about the Opie discount from Opie.
John Vine
They're easy to find when you know where the list is tucked away but not so much if you don't. That's my experience, too. Which, of course, is exactly the opposite of how it should work! I'm with 7WotW (#18) -- the website needs attention.JV
Leadership Team Toughie Posted April 19, 2021 Author Leadership Team Share Posted April 19, 2021 Fair point, folks. It is a problem I'm looking at. I had thought of simply listing the discounts with page number on. The thing is, every time we add an offer, the page numbers alter.I think it right and proper to blame Geoff Brown for getting discounts from so many companies. The man's a menace! Leadership Team Toughie Posted April 19, 2021 Author Leadership Team Share Posted April 19, 2021 When you are on the Members Special Offers pagehttps://www.lotus7.club/membership/special-offers-membersDon't forget to use the "Type" filter at the top, which will narrow down the categories to choose from.
