Old Style Bonnet Catches Latching- Not.

Is the strip on the scuttle (and nose) foam? The original on mine was solid rubber and when i replace with foam it compressed on the radius after a while leaving the catches loose and bonnet raised a little in the centre. Replacing with 1.5mm solid neoprene (70 shore) worked better. Also the catch on the body looks like it's 'pulled' a little - are the rivets original?

You can't swap old and new type of catches, holes are slightly off, and are drilled directly into the chassis, and the reach of the new is less. Rivets are not original, but the location of the catch is the same.

In an effort to get a new bonnet to fit, I removed the original rubber strip off the nose, to no avail, the bonnet had a 5mm gap for its whole length on the nearside, the bonnet on the car is the original.

Looks like I'll have to put foam down the top rails.

"I use some clear plastic tubing of appropriate diameter cut to length (about1/2”) heated up in water to make it malleable then slid over the hook on the bonnet."

Same thought, except mine was split black hose. A good fit with the edges glued to each other around the metal fitting would probably last longer than face-to-face adhesion on the metal.
