Richard_420R
I 'got a bit too close' to a cone at recent Blyton Park trackday and it has damaged my rear wheel arch - nothing major but the surface plastic has come off on a small chunk at the bottom exposing a bit of the fibreglass and there is a nick a bit further up too where the cone must have hit again.Whilst new arches seem cheap, I'm assuming getting them painted is less so. Anyone got a rangefinder for Oakmere or Caterham doing this? And are 'repairs' possible on these fibreglass pieces? Currently I've got some orange duck tape on there to stop it getting more scruffy (it's Arancio Argos). I'm not too upset having the battle scars visible but be useful to know my options...Rich. nickh7
How about some carbon wrap round wing protectors from Dave Lale at Classic Carbon, cheaper than a wing and respray. Will also cover up the damage
7 wonders of the world
no reason why a good indy bodyshop couldn't do this for you, not sure where you are in the country but I'm sure there will be some names of places put forward for you
7 wonders of the world
just in case your thinking about kissing cones on a frequent basis it might be worth you checking to see what fixings you have on your wings - the race guys use nylon bolts which shear on impact protecting the side skin otherwise the stock steel bolts pull the rivnuts out leaving nice big holes !! Richard_420R
Hi nickh7, can't see a picture of these on their site - are they bigger than the standard stone chip protectors - I have caterham carbon ones on the front but the cone just clipped the small gap on the outside of the protector. K7 VCT
Could try wrap around ones from millwood motors at dursley, Gloucestershire. Cover much more than the caterham ones. Painting try pja coachworks at Ashford near Heathrow. Just done some painting for me. Great service.
ECR
I had this problem to solve recently (rolled back into a low level trailer). A small crack in the wing cost around £125.00 to fix and respray black. I didn't shop around too much for a lower price and if I had standard rear wings I would probably have purchased new @ £144.00 (caterham price)

Ian Mackenzie
Anything can be done with fiberglass...it's the gel coat that is cracked and come offIf you want to fix yourself- grind back gel coat around crack back to fiberglass (give it more of a shallow u shape for the filler to key)- fill with normal car filler- sand and profile (60 grit will cut back to get shape, then 600 / 800 Grits to smooth off)- repaint and job done (cut back with 1200/1400 grit and then polish in with cutting paste, T-Cut pase will work OK)
elie boone
The minimum is to use a filler with fibers if the wing is not broken, (if it is cracked then i use Sikaflex to glue the wing together) i would start sanding with a 150 the a 500 and finish with a 800 for a solid colour and a 1000 for a pearl, if done properly and in a decent spray boot there is no need to cut and buf the paint. Richard_420R
Thanks ... will try a local body shop and see what they quote. Don't think it's a big job and sounds like new arch more hassle than it's worth.
