Graham Hutton
Anyone got any great ideas about how to mount an iPhone for use as a satnav in the car without it looking rubbish? I quite fancy mounting it in front the gear stick with sucker mount onto the front of the heater or maybe to the left with a sucker mount onto the underside of the fuse box cover. I just want it to look neat. Anyone got any great ideas and/or pics of how they have done it?Cheers
nic.day
I have my phone just where you suggested.I have a gopro mount stuck to the bulk head, on to a cuved gopro extention then to a phone mount with a gopro connector. So the phone sits right infront of the gear stick.I think (was a few years ago) I got it all from Amazon, just built up the sections. I will try and get a photo for you

Graham Hutton
Thanks Nic, that was exactly what I was thinking. Looks really neat. Do you find you can see it and reach the screen OK as you drive along?I'll have a look at the other thread now. Many thanks both
nic.day
Yep, vision is no problem at all. does not block any of the windscreen as well
GulfSeven
I use a standard Samsung suction mount over on the passenger side so it doesn't block either the view forward or the wing mirror.I've also got a dual USB 3 in the socket under the dash. Wrightpayne
You have to be mindful that USB outlets often draw a small residual current due to their circuitry (that reduces the voltage to 5V)
GulfSeven
I have an engine cut off so nothing drains the battery when the car's parked up.
David_B
You can build it with a metal plate, two sockets and a piece of a phone holder. A carbon-like adhesive could be applied to look it nice.

David White
I wasn't keen on the "7" of those available from eBay, so I redesigned a version and had it 3D printed.
Graham Hutton
Thanks dswhite! That one looks brilliant. I had decided against the ones available on eBay because they don't work with the edge trim on the scuttle panel and I must admit that I kind of prefer my car with the edge trim on. Partly because it conceals the ends of the stick on stripes and also the horrible sharp metal flare out bit on the edge of the cockpit is protected. ANYHOW, your 3D print version looks perfect. What chance of getting a copy??? I'll remember you in my will.thanks a millionGraham
L66TEY
"Snap" I bought mine from "3D Print Shack" on eBay. Dave was very helpful and did this "custom" version. Chris
