R500K stack Dash user guide (what the buttons do!!?)

So with a bit of time on my hands I have decided to dive in to the stack dash and what the buttons do.

I know the button closest to the steering wheel toggles through the different screens - so what about the other buttons? Anyone got a guide or could talk me through the buttons.

Thanks

Nic

Oh its a 2001 R500K number 19 if that helps

I now have the manual, thanks Mark - Jonathan sent me one.

The question is, in the manual it says button three to toggle between the layers, but on my car its the button nearest to the dash that does that.

So without just pressing away at the other buttons like a monkey (which is what I would normally just do) I wanted to read first (while the car was away and I had time) - so hopfully I would not get in trouble and change a setting or something important.

Thanks, received your message Jonathan but can't reply for some reason - blocked or inbox full?

I don't have the wiring diagram, but would like it, please.

I have a printed copy of a stack user guide 'ST8130' which came with my car, but not sure how relevant it is as there is no reference I have found of gear position display which I have with my sequential box.

The post after this one is the very helpful response from 213 Performance, the agents for STACK servicing and repair in Europe

This follows the special offers that Geoff Brown negotiated with 213 Performance.

I also have a collection of Caterham wiring diagrams which include the harnesses for both K and Ford engined Sevens with STACK dashes: please let me know if you would like copies.

And if anyone has STACK User Guides other than 8100 and 8300 please could they send me a copy. Thanks.

Jonathan

213 Performance has been appointed as the factory approved service and
repair facility for the STACK brand in Europe by Auto Meter (The owners of
STACK). We complete service and repair work (Including warranty repairs) to
factory standard, using original parts and equipment at our workshop here in
the heart of the UK's "Motorsport Valley". As former STACK employees we have
between us over 50 years of experience.

STACK has enjoyed (and continues to do so) many years of partnership with
Caterham. Over those years there have been many variations, and part numbers
supplied. Some have been factory programmed to Caterham specifications, and
offer limited capability for the end user to change configuration settings.
Also adding to the confusion is the fact that dash's are retro-fitted by
customers.

Regardless of being a Caterham spec dash, or a generic STACK supplied unit,
there are 2 manuals which should help the user gain the maximum from dash's
fitted to their cars. With the Caterham specific configurations not all
functions, or menu options will be available:

Street car spec - 3 "window" display, with speed always in the middle:

https://www.autometer.com/media/manual/2650-1764.pdf

Race spec - 4 Windows:

https://www.autometer.com/media/manual/2650-1760.pdf

Without putting the "hard sell" on - We can reprogram Caterham spec dash's
to generic STACK spec. This "unlocks" the full functionality of the dash,
and all menu options are then available.

Depending on the age of the dash, there may be variations in the type of
sensors used in the kits. Earlier dash's ran a resistive pressure sensor.
The earlier resistive pressure sensors are known to fail with vibration (We
always recommend remote mounting the resistive sensors). Later dash's were
supplied with a solid state sensor that is much more reliable and can be
direct mounted on the engine. All sensors are still available as spare parts
through the network of STACK distributors. We can help with part numbers if
required.

There is third spec of dash fitted to the R300/420R race cars. Whilst it
looks the same, it is a fully configurable, data logging dash.

Broadly speaking, dash's supplied to Caterham for installation in new cars
were supplied without wiring looms. Caterham integrated looms from their own
supplier in to the main car chassis loom. Because of this, it is very
difficult to offer any assistance relating to wiring on Caterham loomed
cars. Cars that had the dash's retro-fitted would be using the STACK
supplied looms, and detailed wiring schematics are available.

All of the dash's are fitted with an internal battery that backs up the
configuration settings when power is removed. STACK specified those
batteries to last for approx.. 5 years. Our experience is that they last
considerably longer! Should owners encounter a "Mem Batt Low" message on
initial power up, its time to have the battery replaced. We can perform that
service here at 213 Performance.

We are always happy to help owners answer questions, or offer advice. As
enthusiasts ourselves, we do not believe in the "hard sell". We also love
talking about cars!

The best thing to do is to give us the Model and Serial number of a dash. We
have access to the factory records, and can see the service history of most
STACK products. I know that getting the serial number can be a pain in a
Caterham. When I was younger I spent a lot of time hanging upside down in
car footwells. Now that I am older, I use a mobile phone - Normally you can
get a good enough picture of the silver serial number label on the back of
the dash to identify it.

One final thing: STACK dash's should NOT mist up! They should be sealed, and
contain a gel pack that should absorb moisture. Condensation is not good for
electronics. If an owners dash is misting, then we should be able to solve
that problem. It is definitely not a case of TADTS.

Apologies for the length of the post! As I am sure you can imagine, there
have been so many variations over the years, its not an easy question to
answer.

Please let me know if you need any more information.

Best regards,

Andrew.

Having visited the team at 213 Performance to do some articles for Lowflying (having previously received exemplary service from them when I was trying to troubleshoot a sensor problem) I can wholeheartedly recommend their service, friendliness and expertise *byebye*
