mudguard
Just bled the brakes and found that the hex on one of my nipples is slightly rounded and so I want to replace it. Not urgently as it's plenty tight enough at the moment. So from searching here I know that these are M10 x 1 (2003 imperial de-dion, standard rear brakes), but how long are they from the hex to the tip? There seem to be several sizes available.
SM25T
See if your local Caterham parts specialist has them ... Redline Components in Caterham Valley. If they don't have them they might know the length.
TomB
Thread boing - Im thinking along the same lines before I refill the braking system. For the rear brakes, are these standard Sierra nipples, such as these? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Sierra-Cosworth-4x4-4x-Brake-caliper-bleed-nipples-screws-N9590a4/332637592772?fits=Model%3ASierra&epid=7018811787&hash=item4d72bedcc4:g:lngAAOSwMEtafDv5

ChrisC
For reference http://www.fordopedia.org/parts-catalog/sierra-mk1/E3.30Nipple Ford part number is 1486865 or 71EB-2208-BAhttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ford-Brake-Caliper-Bleed-Screw-1486865/272376563331?epid=1309768519
TomB
Thanks Chris. I removed the nipples last night and filed the hex edges flat, then soaked them in citric acid for a few hours. They've come out looking much refreshed, and I think Ill refit them. An observation is that lots of the 'Sierra' nipples on eBay have a slightly different shape to the OEM part, so Im glad I didn't buy before taking them out and inspecting them. As an aside, normal vinegar has been my go-to derusting product to bathe small bits in for derusting, normally left overnight or a day with some agitation. But this powder form citric acid for descaling kettles etc was really quick and effective. Maybe its powder form allows a stronger solution to be made rather than the ready mixed acetic acid in the vinegar.

Yes. And heat will speed up the effect. Citric acid may not be available as easily as in the past... because it's used to cut drugs of abuse.Jonathan
