Rear brake pipe union

I have a slight weep from the solid brake pipe to braided hose at the end if the tunnel. I’ve done it up quite tightly and I’m worried about stripping something if I go much further. The build manual I have says:

‘Attach the other end of the braided hose to the solid brake pipe coming from the transmission tunnel through the vertical aluminium panel. A plain washer should be fitted and placed between the solid brake pipe fitting and the aluminium panel and a shakeproof washer the aluminium panel and the  braided hose fitting.’

I’ve got this arrangement, and I’m wondering if the plain washer is preventing the flared head of the pipe compressing strongly against the braided pipe counter fitting. Has anyone dispensed with this washer? Any Thoughts?  I’ve got my MOT booked in a fortnight after my rebuild so I need to sort it before the test.

I've had a look at my set up, and it does have a plain and shake proof washer either side of the aluminium the brake hose goes through.

The nuts have different thicknesses though (one is a half nut and very thin) , so that may be the problem.

If you have a gap between the brass end of the fixed pipe and the nut holding the brake hose end in place, it should mean you are compressing the union. If the brass fitting is tight up against the securing nut, try finding a thinner one or maybe remove the plain washer. Good luck *smile*

Hi DJ, thanks for putting that picture up. Mine is below, as currently fitted. I’ve not original fittings on the solid pipe, it do I have a nut in th wrong place? I was thinking about winding back the nut fully on the braided pipe, then getting the solid pipe secured against the braided hose, before winding back the nut on th ebraided hose. I did them up with a spanner on each, so I think that’s the problem and it’s not sealing. I need to use the smaller hex on the hose that doesn’t move, to tighten against.

Yes, the nuts in the wrong place.  Undo the solid pipe flare nut, pull the fitting with hose back out the hole, unwind the nut from the fitting, put the fitting through the hole, fit the washer and nut, secure the fitting.  Then fit the solid pipe flare nut.
