Chris_Beaven
Does the rear flexible brake hose require a protective cover? The manual says to do this, but blogs vary (in fact I only found one appearing to do this). If current practice is to include it, which hose do people use? Thanks,Chris
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted March 10, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted March 10, 2019 Are you referring to the flexible hose conversion from the DeDion tube to the calliper? For these I used Goodridge 600 series hoses which have an abrasion resistant sleeve built in, I wouldn't use an additional sleeve because it would then become difficult to inspect the hose. Plain stainless braided hoses are fine though, just keep them clean to make them easier to inspect for damage (same as the front).Stu.
John Vine
If you mean the flex hose running to the 3-way union, the IKEA-style (Sigma) Assembly Guide does indeed show a sleeve made from a split rubber hose. This has always puzzled me, as CC's IVA checklist makes no mention of the need for it, and neither does CC's own Duratec AG. It would be worth checking with CC whether it really is needed. However, if you want to fit it, I suggest you use a length of 8mm/10mm rubber fuel hose.JV
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted March 10, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted March 10, 2019 In 2013 during my cars PBC CC wrapped split rubber hose on the flexi pipe attached to the three way union stating that more than likely Gillingham IVA would look upon a naked pipe unfavourably in such an area that could be prone to contact by debris?!!I mentioned to CC that no where was it stated that the hose was required unlike on the clutch flexi pipe but the fitting would combat the IVA 'grey area'. John Vine
Thanks for that, Geoff. Like you, I find the IVA reasoning even more bizarre as the risk of damage is why there's a braided hose there in the first place! And come to think of it, what about potential damage to the front brake flex hoses? They must be even more exposed to debris, road gravel etc. There's a lot of inconsistency here. If the Gillingham IVA station really feels that way, the requirement should apply to all IVA stations, and be part of CC's IVA Guide. And if protective hose is definitely required, CC should say so in both the current AGs (Sigma and Duratec) and also specify what hose to use.JV
mic
No two IVA stations are the same, far too much is down to the testers discretion!
7 wonders of the world
But the IVA still allows a rigid hose connected to a floating caliper......
Chris_Beaven
Thanks all. It is the hose to the DeDion t-piece yes.I think I'll pop something on for IVA - probably better to err on the side of caution.Cheers.
