Rear fog light not working

Need some ideas please guys?

Cant get the light to work, Have checked the following:

1. Fuse - is OK

2. Run a cable direct to the lamp itself and it’s working fine

3. Changed the switch for a new one

4. Pulled the plug in the rear arch and remade the connection

Still not working!

Help please?

Does yours only work on dipped headlamps?

Was that a new feed or earth or both?

Have you already got a multimeter?

Jonathan

PS: Haven't asked the latter for months. :-)

Usually only works with lights on. There is a linked feed from the headlight switch

and dipped beam only - it will extinguish on main beam, or it does on later models

All other lamps working correctly?

ran an earth and live direct to the lamp

I'd try the same thing but with it fully connected as usual, ignition on, dipped headlamps on, and then those temporary jumps one at a time... which one makes it work?

Have a multimeter

Remove the bulb.

Does one contact of the bulbholder go to 12V (other lead on a good earth) when you turn the lamp on, ignition on, dipped headlamps on?

Is the other contact of the bulbholder continuous to earth?

Sure remember something on here from a while ago, maybe shared earth issue.

Are you thinking of the one where there's a bad earth and it finds another route to earth through the bulb of a different light circuit?

When you had the lights on dipped beam, did you also have the ignition switched on?

OK guys, good news, it’s fixed!

Went and had another look and turns out the light switch was sticking and not actually switching dipped beam on properly - so on sidelights. Fixed switch and lo and behold it works.

Thanks for all the help!
