C7 Owl
I need to replace thermostat on my 1.6 K series. Does anyone have a how to guide or workshop manual they could share? Any tips on what to watch out for and easiest route to remove old part? First time working on the caterham so a bit in dark. Thanks

Wrightpayne
Lots in the archives on how to refill a K series cooling system, 3mm hole in the stat, bleed tee in the heater loop and raise the front end.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted September 6, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted September 6, 2020 Are you sure the thermostat needs changing?Stu.
C7 Owl
Yes seen the stuff on filling cooling system. Planning to do the 3mm hole, (although my memory of threads was 2mm). Will review those again. Couldn't find any on exact location in 1.6 k and how to take off thermostat to replace. Some mention of it being tricky. C7 Owl
Well had an airlock when filling. Drained then refilled with front elevated and screw open on radiator. Couldn't get it to settle. Thermostat seemed most likely and cheapest part of system to replace. Thought it should be do-able job for me to do. Area Representative Richard Price Posted September 6, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted September 6, 2020 'Need to make sure the non return valve in the front end of the inlet manifold is not stuck closed causing air to be trapped in the cylinder head. Shropshire AR
Off side (RH looking forward) at the forward end of the engine mid way down. It's a plastic housing held on by one bolt if my memory serves me well.
SM25T
Mind you dont cross thread the bolt when refitting. It holds the dipstick and thermostat housing. Tricky getting access on an SV. Must be night on impossible on an S3 ! 3mm for the hole in the backplate, but do make sure it is at the top when fitted

CPS7
Was there a guide to replacing the thermostat please?
SM25T
Undo the 3 bolts, remove the cover and replace the thermostat. Access can be tricky. Alternatively, undo the single bolt that holds the dipstick tube and thermostat and pull thermostat towards rear of car to do it on the bench. Careful not to cross thread this single bolt when refitting
CPS7
Ta, looks like access is the issue.. from underneath lifted?
SM25T
On my SV it is tricky, but doable with car on ground. On an S3, I have no idea !
Roadsport06
S3 here. I took the dipstick tube out which made it easier. Fine to do it from the top. It is fiddly
