7SW
Hello, For those who still have a Rover K, you may be concerned. My S3 1600k 2005 doesn't have a flywheel blanking plate fitted:I didn't notice this until now as the previous standard flywheel didn't shine as the new installed lightweight one does.So this could be dangerous in case of a stone enters in collision with it.I did search for the original Rover part from both CCUK and ebay...and elsewhere: no success.I decided to make my own one. Here is some photos of the built; if this can be useful for some one...Design for cutting the aluminum plate (0.8mm):First tests with a paper sheet: After having cut the ali plate,3 holes have to be drilled onto the bell housing for fixing the plate: With the hope this can help someone. p.mole1
Thanks, I've had my engine out a few times and never really took any notice. That is a fair size hole, my engine is also without a cover, I'm off to make a copy
TomB
Its very neat, Im also impressed with drilling holes down there with the engine in the car and fully plumbed in by the looks of it! I've hardly got any room under there! (is it an SV?)
Bricol
Mines got a 19 yr old hole down there - not caused any issues so far . . .
7SW
I did notice this once the engine has been reinstalled into the bay.As this is a S3, there isn't any room for drilling with a standard drill.I had to use a 90° adaptor with a flexible driveshaft. By using a high quality drill forest, making an hole into the alliage is easy.
Englishmaninwales
Flywheel 1 - Stone 0 (but I did loose a washer in the gap once, stayed there until the next engine out).
oilyhands
I have had to remove an engine once when a customer dropped a bolt into the gap and it couldn't be fished out, the stock Rover cover is designed to bolt to the PG1 and R65 gearbox bell housings which are different to the Caterham bellhousing so it is not a natural fit and of course the clutch cable entry adds another level of difficulty. There is also a risk associated with the clutch cable covering gaiter under which is a hole through the top of the bellhousing, if the gaiter isn't fitted correctly the foreign bodies can fall through there. To marks , it's an initiative that others should follow.Oily
