SLR won't start - no spark

It's a 1999 car with separate coil (no coil packs at plugs)

Not cranking too fast but I'd have said enough to spark

I do have a multimeter (but electrics ain't my strong point!)

After the oil change I pulled the plug leads and coil wire from the distributor to crank fresh oil through engine before starting it properly

connected the shift lights at the rev counter

What's the battery voltage at rest and during cranking? (Some 7s seem to be very susceptible to dropping the voltage too low for some part of the electronics.)

Recheck the connections and that the right lead goes to the right plug.

If it's reasonably easy disconnect and see if it makes any difference.

Edited: Crossed with Piers', and checking earths is always a good idea.

A bad ECU earth will allow a spark, but it will not fire the injectors. Ask me how I know this !!!

Try squirting some fuel into the throttle bodies, taking all due precautions and see if it starts.

Car now starting fine!

after I disconnected the newly fitted shift lights..... so clearly an issue related to their installation.... grrr

Lights are genuine ACES ones and i managed to trace the problem back to the sleeved sensor cable which had not connected properly

a decent mornings work!

Thanks for all the advice chaps

Now need to get the shift lights wired right! The screened cable seems to be the issue and Not quite sure how to connect it to the rev counter sensing wire? Tried just connecting the inner wire but it's not right and not sure what to do with the screened outer wire?
