Something clonking around in fuel tank.

Hi

I filled up with fuel last night and when I got home 12 miles later I could hear something clonking around in the tank. Car has a K series type tank with sealed honey comb floor and bottom protection. Has anyone had a similar problem, ie baffles, float etc coming adrift.

Many thanks in advance

Elliott

Hi

Thanks for the replies. The fuel gauge is showing 17L so I think I can rule out the float. I am having probs with the tank pressurising so it could have expanded slightly and popped a baffle. I will check today to see if the fuel neck flap is missing. Does the fuel pump have a pre filter that could have fallen off?

It definitely sounds like something moving in the bottom of the tank. I am going to empty the tank when I have time and try and take it out the bottom way if possible.

Cheers

Elliott

Hi Charles,

Thanks for the reply. Is the metal frame around the pump normally, and can it be refitted? I have Ian Nobles old car by the way and hope to return it to the track/maybe the Megagrads in the next few years.

Regards

Elliott

I had a cloncking all last year and this winter discovreed that the tank was not clamped sufficiently so i am hoping it is that.

Mine is clamped with a threaded bar  and even with quite a bit of effort it is clamped but not quite perfect.

Just going to revisit it as time goes on
