Speedo not working

Thought was the wheel sensor, got a new one and still nothing.
display lights up but needle doesn't move and miles don't change either.
mechanic has checked wiring and confirmed sensor working. Do the gauges fail? Anything else to check.
it's a 2014 360R

Thanks

The gauge can fail, and they are fixable: Speedometer and Instrument Repairs.

But other faults are more likely.

I'd start with the Speedometer Guide...

1 Check the gap

2 Is the little light flashing reliably?

3 Are all other instruments working normally?

4 Any recent work on the car?

There is a Workshop Notice with improved wiring. That's described in the Guide.

I can't remember the characteristics of the signal from the sensor, but the next step should be to test for that signal wherever you can get access between the sensor and the instrument.

If you'd like a wiring diagram please send me a Private Message with your email address.

Jonathan's guide covers all you need to know.

I am confused by your wording, I assume it's from your mechanic, these sensors don't send a signal.  The sensors CC use are just switches, simple on or off, hence it would be worth checking for the LED on the sensor itself, is that going on and off as the wheel rotates.  Gap is always the number one suspect, it has changed with the new sensor.

Beyond that, it could be a faulty pull up resistor (located behind the speedo), wiring connection between the speedo and the sensor, or as pointed out the speedo itself.  The speed sensor wire can also be found in the ECU connector, although it should be isolated and not connected to the ECU, could that have been altered recently?
