StuB
For some reason the thread had taken a knock on the end and I can't get the nut started. I'm going to try and get a die for it tomorrow. Can anyone tell me the thread size and any recommendations of where to get one? Picture here Thanks, Stu Edited by - StuB on 3 Mar 2013 22:57:
Tony Whitley
Either repair the thread with a fine file or file a chamfer on the damaged end removing the last thread, there's plenty left for safety.

Roger Ford
Pretty sure it's M10 fine 1.25mm - yes, even on an imperial car. Careful, because M10 fine can also mean 1.0mm.
Roger Ford
Correction - it's M10 fine 1.0mm. That's assuming we're talking about the track rod ends at the end of the steering rack. That's for the ones bought in the past few years - it's entirely possible that earlier ones used an imperial thread.
Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 4, 2013 Area Representative Share Posted March 4, 2013 Stu, Beware. I've come across different thread sizes on different sides of the same car. Are you sure that you're trying to fit the correct nut? If it is m10x1 then you may find that it's cheaper to replace the trackrod end rather than buy a die (and maybe a stock to hold it in). You may also find it very difficult to grip the tapered stem so that you can recut the thread....
Grim Reaper
Not sure if any of the following is useful... (Track Rod Ends are 1/2"x20 UNF Female, RH Thread, 11.3mm cone in case anyone needs this info, fits Triumph Herald/Vitesse, Spitfire/GT6, Dolomite/Toledo,Later MG Midgets) From my findings last year when I needed some. Area Representative Richard Price Posted March 4, 2013 Area Representative Share Posted March 4, 2013 Quoting Grim Reaper: (Track Rod Ends are 1/2"x20 UNF Female, RH Thread, 11.3mm cone in case anyone needs this info, fits Triumph Herald/Vitesse, Spitfire/GT6, Dolomite/Toledo,Later MG Midgets) The 1/2" UNF is the track rod. Stu is having difficulty with the fixing that secures the trackrod end into the steering arm.
StuB
Thanks to all, I'm going to try all of the nuts I have first as Richard suggested, then a small file, as Tony. Worst case a new one is £14.00 from CC (this is the most expensive "low cost" refresh in history) Stu
Roger Ford
It's unlikely you'll have a 10mm x 1.0mm nut. I think I've got a few spare if want me to send one?
Mavic82
Worst case a new one is £14.00 from CC Dont buy from CC, only about £4 from your local motor factor. Probably cheaper than a die. Guy
