Trailer Tie Down Straps

We bought a new Brian James Trailer a year ago that came with Tie Down Straps.

These seem more suitable for use to hold down a Traction Engine than our little gem of a car.

Can anybody suggest a light weight strap and the supplier that they use that is easy and quick to attach.

P.S. Maybe "Traction Engine" is a slight exaggeration.

I use these UK made in Chesterfield,

they also offer over wheel all in a range of colours and even with reflective weave, nice short ratchets too that work in confinded spces.

Might be interested in your current straps if you are changing - mine are getting on a bit.

OG - do your current straps have the link that allows you to strap the car down by the wheels?

These straps are very broad and thick and quite stiff so are quite hard to manipulate. Difficult to explain.

They go up over the wheels, each one hooked to the bed in 4 places.

When I had a trailer I changed the short over wheel straps from the metal buckle type to looped webbing so they didnt damage the wheels.

I use straps very similar to the ones on the Slings and Straps website quoted above.

Hook one side, pass the loop over the wheel, hook the other and tighten (making sure the strap at tension isn't rubbing or pressing a bit of bodywork or the exhaust).  Done!

I bought 1inch ratchet straps and wheel chokes from Slings and Straps . Very easy to use and with 1 on each wheel well able to secure my Caterham.

I dont think I'd be comfortable using 1" straps to hold 1/2 tonne - SWMBO's bra straps are 3/4" !!

2" minimum IMHO.

That has to be the best comparison ever!  Apologies to the ladies.

I too would not be happy with 1" straps - I know the claimed capability, but when it shifts and one strap is doing more than it should . . . or a little nick in it . . . or just age . . .
