Ralph45
does anyone know of a good way to refresh the vertical links and steering arms as mine are looking tarnished.can they be spayed or painted black or replated to restore the original appearance? Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 23, 2020 Member Share Posted February 23, 2020 All of those + powder coating + wrapping + protective sheathing.Previous discussions. The product with the most recommendations is probably POR 15. NB preparation and safety precautions.JonathanPS: Spaying is limited to the ball joints. ;-)

Area Representative Nick Chan Posted February 23, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted February 23, 2020 Hi Ralph,I had a set powdercoated and they looked great. However, more recently I have wirebrushed the ones on my current car and then painted them in Hammeritre Satin Black and they are looking fine after 3-4 years with a quick wash at the end of the season.Nick
Ralph45
Nick that's good to know the finish lasts. Was the Hammerite an aerosol Finish or brushed on?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 23, 2020 Member Share Posted February 23, 2020 How did you find those old discussions ?I can't find any of the older ones. The site has two search methods: the one you can see at the top right of this page and a page with Google searching.I use neither, but do a direct search with an external search engine and site restriction (that's the site:lotus7.club bit). The ones in #2 above used DuckDuckGo but apparently other search engines are available. :-)You can then refine the search using the normal tools. The second link in my Signature below fires this off ready to add search terms. Have a play with it and let us know how it works for you.JonathanPS: But a few year's familiarity with the forums doesn't hurt. :-)
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted February 23, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted February 23, 2020 Ralph, I used a brushed on finish and it came out very well. Also used it for the track rod ends, steering arms and top ball joints to tidy it all up
Ralph45
Jonathan the link in your signature is great, it will save me so much time with my poor typing skills.
Ralph45
Thanks Nick I've just bought a small tin from screwfix and done the track rod ends and have to say it looks very smart.I'll be giving the other parts a coat soon, and by the way thank you for stepping up and helping the club by taking on the temporary role of club treasurer. philwaters
I can recommend powder coating. I did my hubs and uprights a couple of years ago and with a gloss clear coat, they are really easy to keep clean compared to the normal finish.
