Titanium7
I've always wondered how the manufacturer's indicated car weight is arrived at. What criteria do they apply? Does the car have liquids in it? If so how much fuel? Or do they weigh it dry?
aerobod - near CYYC
Standard EU kerb weight (really mass for the pedantic) is with 90% fuel and all other operating fluids full, together with a 75kg driver. US kerb weight is with 100% fluids, but no driver weight. Caterham weights don't follow either of these standards, it seems.
Q Catcher
Plenty of manufacturers seem to cheat, though. I can only assume they're quoting dry weights, as when magazines weigh the cars, they often get up to 200kg heavier. (Some manufacturers must be weighing the body-in-white ...)When my SV was corner-weighted at Millwood, it was noticeably heavier than Caterham's figure (by nearly 50kg, if I recall) and it's a factory-built car. Sooty
My Crossflow was weighed by my MoT man so he could be certain he adjusted the braking efficiency test correctly. Mine came out at 525kg with half tank and spare wheel on.

andy couchman
Don't know if it's still the case but mag road tests used to be with two people on board plus their timing gear. Can anyone confirm?
rj
Weights have always been quoted dry and without driver. Here, in Denmark, we have just recently had the EU kerb weight with driver introduced. Until then it was the dry weight. As a guideline you can add 125kgs to the dry weight to get the "ready for takeoff" weight.
AdC
The manufacturers are all such fibbers / weasely that I've never understood why the media don't automatically put them on the scales when reviewing / testing - people are interested. I've never understood how Meaden's Fireblade got down to that fabled 369kgs either. Mine is just shy of 400kgs and there's no way I can find another 25kgs. 7 wonders of the world
Just enables CC to manipulate power / weight figures to suit the model references.... I agree there's more than a little dishonesty involved on the part of the manufacturer.

ScottR400D
My R400 was 210.9 from the factory and 220.0 bhp after RBTBs we’re fitted. So pretty close to manufacturer’s figures. At that moment, on that rolling road, of course!
