Whist I'm still on BC! - Charcoal filter?

Whilst I've got the car (K series) on stands doing the service

Does anybody know what the charcoal filter actually does? apart from add weight. It's been on the car for the last 20 years without any looking at  Rolleyes ?

Can it be removed? Does it affect MOT emissions? If it can be removed - how? (there was a link some while back but that post is now blanked)

I have a few rubber pipes coming out of the fuel tank, 2 go through under the car each side of the transmission tunnel another goes near the braided fuel hose and one goes somewhere?

thanks

Have you got Workshop Notice 371 with the required breather modification if you don't have a canister?

Absorbs fuel vapours from the tank to avoid them venting to the atmosphere, then under suitable running conditions releases them back into the engine inlet system to be burned.

I removed the cannister and fitted a sytec one way fuel valve (about £15) which lets air into the tank (to stop it vacuum imploding) but nothing out.

I posted a while ago about fitting it - sytec is quite an unusual / unique word so search engine should find it!

Johnathan. pm sent

Wrightpayne. Thanks, which of the pipes did you fit it to? there are two on the filler neck. And did you fit it under the floor or where the canister used to fit in the engine bay/

All in the boot - I abandoned the black plastic pipe going to the cannister (in situ) and connected the valve to the filler neck in its place. Sure I did a loop within the filler cover in the boot then dropped it down by the end of the tank.

There were posts I read and the workshop notice to follow.
