ZZS replacing CR500.. they are wider, is this a problem? Ans: Apparently not.

I am on my last set of CR500s... which are probably now a bit old already.

and ZZRs.. any road utility?

I gather ZZx tyres are heavier. Are the sidewalls also stiffer? I am of course accustomed to my CR500 tyres having been specifically designed for my R500 car, so not enthusiastic about in future having to use what amount to generics. Has 20 years allowed advances relevant for me and my car?

I've found my car to be faster on the circuit using ZZS rather than ZZRs under most conditions.

It could be due to setup of the car.

Being wilder may need you to re-set the rake and maybe to add a little more toe-out to make the car want to turn in again.

I have ZZRs on my 2015 R400D. When I got the car it had CR500s but I also had a set of ZZRs on other rims for on track.

The car was set up for the ZZR and wasn’t much changed for road use with the CRs. I just altered the toe and camber. (With the track settings for ZZRs I found it twitchy and susceptible to tramlining on the road)

I now run ZZR all the time and avoid the rain. I’ve fitted JWM rose jointed top joints so it’s a quick job to go from high camber/toe out to less camber and parallel which I find better on road.

The ZZRs do weigh more and ride harder, especially when new, so I guess they are stiffer.

No problem with clearance.

i am at the same point with my CSR260. I’ve managed to stay with CR500s until now, but now need to make the switch. Only rears at the moment, so don’t have the problem of trying to fit the higher profile ZZS tyres under the CSR front wings! I reckon I have another 2-3k miles left in the fronts.
